Glorify God, What it Looks Like, and How to Do It

Have you heard the scripture – Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God in 1 Corinthians 10:31? As a Christian you want to follow through on that command. Have you ever wondered exactly what it looks like and how to do all things to the glory of God?

There’s a story found in Luke 17 which helps us to see what it looks like to glorify God . . .and how to perform this command. It took place as Jesus was traveling between Samaria and Galilee. He passed through a village and there were ten lepers who shouted to him from a distance. The lepers prayed Jesus would have mercy on them. Jesus heard their request and responded “go and show yourselves to the priests”. The record in the Bible says as they were going, they were cleansed.

All ten of them were healed of their disease, but only one returned glorifying God. Luke 17 says this one man when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, fell on his face at His feet giving thanks to Him.

From this account we can see glorifying God means we first must acknowledge our healing, benefit, blessing, circumstance, help comes from God. His grace in our life is what has enabled us to experience this event (eat, drink, or whatsoever). Next, we must turn away from our own going and turn back toward God giving Him our gratitude and appreciation for the favor He has given to us. Finally, express honor to Him for the answer to prayer He has provided.

A quick way to think about how to glorify God is with the letters RTP.

R– Recognize this circumstance, event, experience has been allowed by God.

T– Thank God for His direct availability and intervention in your life.

P– Praise God that He is with you and answers your prayer/request for help.

Even when things are hard, this method can be used to glorify God. There may be a “whatsoever” that seems to be dark and hard. We can use this RTP formula to bring glory to God.

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1Thessalonians 5:18

Begin right now. What is some event you can bring glory to God about? Apply the RTP formula. There is benefit and blessing when you bring glory to God.
