What Are We Leaving The Next Generation?

Generation names range from The Silent Generation to Millennial Generation or Generation Y.  They each have their own characteristics and defining qualities.  It seems as if the current generations in America have nothing in common.  Did the past generations have any affect upon the current generations or generations to come?  Did the generation before have the ability to portray attitudes and thoughts into the generation that followed them and the ones yet to be born?  Are we able to leave the next generation something?

The Bible makes reference to generations yet to be born.  Psalm 78 verse 6 says, “That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children.”

What is it that is so important that one generation can impress another generation so that the importance can be conveyed to even those yet to be born?

Psalm 78 explains 3 details to show to the next generation.  The Psalm explains 3 reasons for sharing these details with the next generation.  There are 3 attitudes the next generation will avoid by hearing and heeding the details we convey to them.

The details we are instructed to leave the generation after us are as follows:

  1. The Praises of the Lord – All the things the Lord has done that are praiseworthy.
  2. The Lord’s Strength – All the Lord’s capability and “might”.
  3. The Lord’s Wonderful Works – All the acts the Lord has performed.

In sharing these details with the generation following us, they will more likely share with the generation after them.  This will ensure the generation we share these details with and those “yet to be born” will do the following:

  1. Set their hope in God.
  2. Not forget the works of God.
  3. Keep God’s commandments.

Leaving the generation after us the details of praising the Lord, a knowledge of the Lord’s strength, and an experience of knowing the Lord’s wondrous works enables the next generation to avoid the following:

  1. Stubbornness and Rebellion against God.
  2. Non-Right Heart before God.
  3. Unsteadfastness toward God.

We want to leave the generation after us many wonderful things for their pleasure and enjoyment.  Let’s be reminded that leaving the next generation the details of praiseworthy attributes of God, knowledge of all the mighty deeds of God, and examples of all God’s wondrous works will leave them something that is much better.  By leaving the generation after us these details, they will always depend and rely on God, obey Him, and follow after His ways.  This will enable them to avoid many painful experiences in this life and in eternity.

What will we do today to leave the next generation what God says in Psalm 78 the details that we should leave them?

Don’t drop the ball . . . those children yet to be born need to know details of all the praiseworthy deeds of God, His Mighty Strength, and His Wonderful Works in order to put their hope and confidence in God and avoid trouble and disconnection from God.

May God enable us to be faithful to share the details of Him to the next generation!

Additional Thoughts

The works of God much strengthen our resolution to keep his commandments. Hypocrisy is the high road to apostacy; those that do not set their hearts right, will not be stedfast with God. Many parents, by negligence and wickedness, become murderers of their children. ~Matthew Henry

Dear Lord, please help us to be faithful in telling the next generation. Help us to faithfully, obediently, courageously and persistently try our best to pass on the baton of faith, knowledge and praises of our Lord!  (Jollynotes.com)
