Transformational Truths

A Reflection of Thanks

Two friends were out walking one day in a rural part of the country. A hog farm nearby had released some of its waste and the odor filled the air. One friend commented how bad the smell was. The other friend countered saying, “It smells like money to me”.

The odor both smelled was the same. It was the first-hand experience of the source of the odor that made the difference in the appraisal of the smell. To the one who had nothing to do with the livelihood received from selling hogs had no appreciation (thanks) for the smell. However, the friend who had some personal knowledge of the hog farming trade knew there was value in the smell and she showed gratitude.

What value do you give to the aroma of Christ or His teaching? What is the first-hand experience you have of His death, burial and resurrection? The personal livelihood you obtain from the teaching of Christ will determine your assessment of the manifest presence of His knowledge.

2 Corinthians 3:14-17 teaches we (believers) are always a reflection of the victory of Christ Jesus. To some people experiencing our message of victory in Christ Jesus, conclude it is a horrible odor. Others who have a personal, first-hand experience of victory in Christ Jesus find the smell absolutely life giving.

Every place Christ is proclaimed there will be two assessments. One assessment will be a smell of death. The other will be a smell of life. The difference in assessment comes from the personal livelihood involved in the person providing the assessment.

The amount of your appreciation for God’s favor is directly proportional to livelihood received from the grace of God. The grace of God is the same sweetness to those who are perishing and to those who are living.

Let your reflection be of thankfulness to God for all the favor (likeness with Christ) He has given you in Christ Jesus. Let the sweetness of the aroma of Christ fill your heart so that you spread Him wherever you go. Keep in mind, as with Christ, some people who do not have life, smell Christ as though He stinks. Others who have life in Christ Jesus, smell Christ as their most valuable possession. Your treatment by others will be comparable of how they treat Christ.

Reflect your thanks to God today. Let His aroma penetrate you and let His aroma spread to all who are in your presence. Let the aroma show the way to life and victory through Christ Jesus.

Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.
