5 REASONS GOD CHOSE YOU TO BE HIS

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

1 Peter 2:9

In this one passage we find 5 reasons God chose you to be His.

REASON ONE – Race

God selected you to be a part of a group of people of one origin. He wanted you to be His “kin” or His “folk”. He chose you from the father of this world and made you His own. He gave you the gift to belong to His own origin by His own favor and benevolence. “By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)

REASON TWO – Priesthood

God picked you to be in close contact with Him. He made the way for you to be brought near to Him. “Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” (Ephesians 2:13) The blood of Jesus poured out on your behalf made the way for you to come into the presence of God, in close communion with Him.

REASON THREE – Nation

God elected you to be a participant in the customs and culture of the purity of His nature. The distinguishing and “set apart” essence of God is the atmosphere of your conduct. Before the foundation of the world, God chose you to be part of His nation. “He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.” (Ephesians 1:4)

REASON FOUR – His Own

God called you to belong to Him. He desired to take ownership of you. He desired to take care of you. He wanted to give you a hope and a future. He wanted to surround us with His love, care, and provision. “To purify for himself a people for his own possession” (Titus 2:14) God desired to give you abundant life by getting rid of everything in your life that kills, steals, and destroys. (John 10:10)

REASON FIVE – His Promotion

You were God’s exclusive choice so that you could promote Him. Without God you had no hope in the world. (Ephesians 2:12) He called you out of the darkness and gloom of your current state to bring you into His glorious kingdom of light and virtue. He took you out of the land of bondage to bring you into the land of abundance. You didn’t choose Him, but He chose you. He chose you to display the excellencies of His greatness, the virtue of His character. It can be described as the great love of God to redeem the dead and make them alive. “God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:4-5)

DID YOU NOTICE . . .

Did you notice there was nothing in you that made Him choose you. He chose you because of His own glory and virtue. You were selected because of His benevolence. Deuteronomy 7 explains to the people God brought out of Egypt the reason God chose them was because the Lord loved them. The Lord chose the people to be His because He promised to redeem them and make them His own. He did not set His love on them because of anything about them. He purposed to love them because of who He was, not because of who they were.

WHAT SHOULD BE OUR RESPONSE . . .

God chose us. We did not choose Him. Therefore, what should be our response to His merciful and gracious choosing? (Deuteronomy 7:9-11, 2 Timothy 2:15)

  • Know the Lord is God. He is faithful. He is merciful. He shows wrath to disobedient.
  • Keep the commandments, statutes, and judgments of the Lord. Observe all God says and do it.

WHAT WILL BE THE RESULT . . .

When we know the Lord and follow His ways, the result is abundant life. (Deuteronomy 7:12-15, John 10:10, John 15:16)

  • God will remember His covenant of forgiveness, love you, bless you, and take away your sicknesses.
  • You will display much evidence of God’s virtue showing you belong to Him.

GOD CHOSE US, LET US CHOOSE TO RESPOND APPROPRIATELY TO HIM.
